Miss Connecticut USA Farewell Address
In the blink of an eye my world had changed, I was an average college
student, a political science major who never dreamed that something so
surreal could ever happen to her. I took a chance, and my belief paid
off. Tonight a group of gorgeous young women stands before me, you
are all role models in your own right. As cliche as it may sound, you
are all winners. Remain the person who you want to be, never settle,
and never succumb to a false standard of beauty. Live up to your
expectations for yourself and live a moral existence.
Always be yourself, unique qualities are what make you stand out in
life. Your quirks, your flaws, your differences, a natural young
women is by far more spectacular than a plastic puzzle constructed in
a doctors office.
These past eleven months have taught me a great deal about life. Hard
work and persistence does pay off, even in something that may seem so
effortless, and what may be the typical perception of a task is not
always what it seems. From the time the crown was placed upon my head
last November until this day in October my parents have been
everything and more for me. My mother had taken on a new role; a
stylist, a booker, and agent, a manager, a chauffeur, and a
photographer, much more than I ever would have asked of her. Yet both
of my parents are the only two people who deserve my thanks throughout
my reign. My appreciation and love for them surmounts all.
To be Miss Connecticut USA has been the greatest honor; Thank you, God
bless, and farewell.

Official Miss USA Interview
Jacqueline Honulik
AGE: 21 | HEIGHT: 5'8" | HAIR COLOR: AUBURN | EYE COLOR: GREEN
"Being that I am not a completely crazy or adventurous person, I would
have to say that my adventure in the Waipio Valley of Hawaii with
friends and family was one of the craziest experiences I ever had.
From coasting down the side of a cliff at an incredibly steep incline,
to traveling through rivers, and sinking into 4 feet of mud while in a
rented SUV; my spur of the moment trip to Waipio was one of the
craziest moments of my life." Jacqueline graduated from Fairfield High
School in 2004 and is a student at The University of Scranton with
area of study in Political Science. "My strongest talent is my
passion. My passion triggers my drive and determination and allows me
to compete and chase after what I want most. I am a goal oriented
young woman; I strive for greatness while maintaining my core values.
I keep my moral values close to my heart throughout all I do; which is
one of the reasons I chose to attend a Jesuit University. A strong
sense of commitment and character coinciding with compassion and
dignity. My passion for ballet has allotted me some of the best
moments of my life while performing on stage, using my body as a tool
to convey a message. My passion for school has allowed me to become a
successful student, and I hope to continue onward by someday
fulfilling my career ambitions. I am also passionate about my family
and in remembering those whom I love and those who have treated me
with respect. Without a passion in our lives, our personalities turn
to dust. We have nothing to strive for, nothing to work towards.
Passion breeds hard work, love, and success." "One of my greatest
accomplishments happened at a very early age. I have had a certain
talent for art and creativity all of my life, but while in 4th grade
my greatest dreams came true. I created an ornament which was chosen
to hang on a Christmas tree in the White House during the Holiday
season. I was able to travel to Washington DC with my family, and
experience a tour of the White House. The entire experience was so
beautiful. The feeling of Christmas, the glory of Washington, and the
special feeling of being with my family for such a splendid occasion
was just spectacular. The entire experience was simply honoring. My
mother had also just come out of the hospital, so this event greatly
lifted her spirits. I believe that it was this time spent in
Washington that spurred my love for politics, and my interest in
history. From that moment on, I knew that I wanted to involve myself
in a political climate." When asked what is the most important thing
she wants the judges to know about her, Jacqueline said: "Dear judges,
I am passionate and driven, I believe in good morals and family values
and would never disappoint the Miss Universe organization, for I am
not reckless in anyway. I love my family more than anything and I
appreciate all they have given me in my 21 years on this earth. I
believe that success comes from hard work and practice. Nothing is
given to you in this life, and if you want something you must work for
it; and earn it yourself. I believe that beauty is natural and one's
appearance should never be altered; for that person loses their true
beauty and character with each nip, tuck, and tweak. I believe in
justice and in the benefits of helping others when it is deserved. My
father is a police lieutenant and I believe in all of the core values
he has taught me. My grandfather was a firefighter, and I have
retained his passion and love for the community. I am intelligent and
strong willed. I want to be Miss USA with all of my heart, mind, and
soul. The opportunity to compete in this pageant is the greatest
opportunity that I have ever been given. I promise to wow and inspire
you, and be the absolute best candidate from Connecticut that you have
ever seen. I understand that the task of being Miss USA is a demanding
job. But I am an excellent speaker, I have zero fear of an audience or
the public, I juggle my busy schedule with ease, I am confident,
honest, prepared, obedient, and I want this honor more than anyone. I
believe in defending good morals, and all that I feel is right. I am
not afraid to speak my mind, for I feel that this is a necessity if
one wants to succeed in the world. I believe in the importance of
intelligence in having a strong mind; education is my top priority I
want this accolade not only for me, but for my family, for my
community, for my heritage, and for my future. Thank you judges.
Sincerely, Jacqueline Honulik"

MISS CONNECTICUT USA 2008
Jacqueline Honulik
Age: 21
Hometown: Fairfield,CT
Are you currently involved in any educational studies?
I am a senior at the University of Scranton, majoring in Political Science.
What are your future educational goals?
I hope to meld my love for politics and communications by getting my
masters in broadcast journalism. I also hope to get my law degree as
well.
What is your career ambition?
I’d like to be a political correspondent for a major news network.
Extracurricular activities?
I am the secretary of Circle K at the University of Scranton, a member
of the Pre-Law society, and the Liva Arts Association, Habitat for
Humanity, College Republicans, have dabbled in Model UN, as well as
having involved myself in local student government activities for the
University. I am also a member of Residence Hall Council.
Have you been involved in any community service work?
Along with Circle K, I run a major fundraiser for the Ronald McDonald
House of Scranton, I volunteer with the local ARC, and participate in
community activities. I developed my love for volunteer work while a
student at Fairfield High School, where I was both Student Government
president and an active member of my high school’s Key Club
organization.
Awards/recognition:
I have been named to the National Dean’s List.
What are your hobbies?
I have been dancing since the age of three, and am passionate about
ballet, having been able to dance with members of the New York City
Ballet and American Ballet Theater, as well as the school of American
Ballet. I was also a member of a touring Ukrainian dance troupe. I am
an avid golfer, and enjoy acting, politics, and just spending a day in
Manhattan museums looking at great pieces of art
Do you have any siblings?:
I am an only child.
How did you feel about being an only child when you were younger? What
qualities do you feel it brought to your personality, and your life?
In all honesty, I never felt that being an only child made me any
different than anyone else, or more unique for that matter. When I was
younger it allotted me more time to spend with my parents and
grandparents. Growing up I did miss getting advice from an older
brother or sister, but for whatever I lacked in a biological family, I
made up for with my friends. My home was always a warm and happy
place, and being the only child allowed me to become closer to my
parents.
Interesting facts about you or your family:
I was born two months premature, and at birth weighed 2lbs 14 oz. I am
lucky to be alive, and take each day of my life as a complete
blessing. Also, my father is a police officer with the Greenwich
Police Department, and his dedication to the department and his career
has been my inspiration to always strive for greatness. My mother is a
cancer survivor, and is the strongest person I know.
Unique/interesting experiences you’ve had:
While in elementary school I was able to design an ornament to hang on
a White House Christmas tree. Along with a few other classmates I was
invited to the White House for a tour. I feel that this experience
jump started my love of politics.
Who are your role models?
My mother for her strength and her inner beauty, my grandmother for
her intellect, and my grandfather, a firefighter, and a true American
hero. I idolize Nancy Grace – a former prosecutor who believes in
defending what is right, and never backs down from her point of view,
and also admire Sandra Day O'Connor, the first woman to serve as an
Associate Justice to the United States Supreme Court.
In what way are you a role model?
I am a role model in that I never give into peer pressure, or succumb
to becoming a follower.
What is your favorite way to spend a day?
I am a huge baseball fan! My favorite team is the New York Mets. My
ideal day would be a double-header game, spent at the stadium with
family and friends.
Why did you enter the pageant?
I entered the pageant as a means of enriching my life experience, and
to build my poise and character, tools necessary for the occupation I
hope to have in the future.
What was your first thought when you heard your name called as the new
Miss Connecticut USA?
I was so ecstatic; no words could possibly describe what I was
feeling. I feel like time stood still and I was in some type of
time-warp. I remember looking out at the audience and seeing my
parents jumping up and down. When the crown was placed on my head, the
reality of the situation finally set in!
What are your hopes for the coming year?
I am beyond thrilled for the year to come. I hope to work with police
and fire departments, do work for events promoting cancer research and
prevention, and work with organizations like the March of Dimes that
promote prenatal health and education. I am so excited to be a
role-model as well as to make Connecticut proud at Miss USA 2008.
As Miss Connecticut USA 2008, Honulik will spend her reign as a
